12. NEGATIVE
We can make something negative by changing the CONCORD and the verb ending.
This is how we change concords...
To turn a verb into the negative, we make the following changes...
1. Change the verb prefix (subject concord) 2. Change the verb ending Present tense -- change A to I e.g. We do not see him/her -- asimboni a (negative ) + si (we) + m (him/her) bon (see) + i (negative) Past tense -- change ILE to ANGA e.g. We did not see him/her -- asimbonanga a (negative ) + si (we) + m (him/her) bon (see) + anga (past tense negative) 3. Change the tense indicator Present tense -- remove YA e.g. I do not eat meat -- angiyidli inyama a (negative) + ngi (I) + yi (it) + dl (eat) + i (negative) Future tense -- change ZO to ZU e.g. I will not sleep -- angizulala a (negative) + ngi (I) + zu (will not) + lala (sleep) |
